Rare - Gablinger's Beer Stein or Pitcher
Clear glass with logo/tagline on front in black and white edged lettering.
About 9 inches tall with a 4.5 inch diameter. The heavy clear glass handle is about 5.25 inches long, with the thickest part at the bottom and tapering to an open point at the top of the handle (both ends of the handle are not affixed to the glass stein, one end, the narrower end is open. It's how the item was designed.)
There is no pouring lip, so it's probably best referred to as a big ol' beer stein.
It holds 9 cups (or 72 ounces or 4.5 pounds) of liquid.
This stein basically holds an entire six pack!
Alas, poor Gablinger's; it's kingdom for want of a good advertising agency.
Gablinger's was the first light beer made by
Rheingold
in 1967, developed by
Blake L. Owades
. It's slogan "It doesn't fill you up," didn't give anyone a reason to want to drink it, and it failed. In fact, it's sometimes referred to as the "Edsel" of light beers.
Eventually after giving away the formula and a subsequent sale or two to new owners, Gablinger's became Miller Lite.
