    Description

Up for auction a small ceramic vintage souvenir plate inserted into a metal wire frame or stand.  This souvenir is from the Enchanted Forest theme park, which was located in Ellicott City Maryland.  The Enchanted Forest officially opened on August 15, 1955, following a preview party the afternoon before — one month after Disneyland's Park opening. Appealing mostly to families with small children, the park had a nursery ride theme. The park featured Fairy tale buildings and characters, but no mechanical rides originally.  Track rides were added later, including the Alice in Wonderland ride with teacup-shaped cars, a Cinderella's castle ride with mice for the cars, the "Little Toot" boat that took children to Mount Vesuvius for giant slides, and the Jungleland Safari which was driven by open Land Rover-type vehicles.  The park was permanently shuttered from 1995 to 2005, when active preservation began. Much of the theme park sat undisturbed yet neglected behind a chain-link fence.  Most of the attractions have been moved to nearby Clark's Elioak Farm for preservation, but the main pylon sign is still located on the main street outside the Enchanted Forest Shopping Center.
The souvenir measures 3 5/8" wide from side to side, 3 7/8" high from top to bottom with stand folded down and weighs 1.1 ounces prior to packing for shipping.  Will ship in a 6x6x3 box.
This piece is in good preowned condition without cracks, chips, flakes or repairs.  The wire frame stand has some wear, discoloration, rust and tarnish.  The inserted plate and wire frame is a bit dirty.  The over glaze decoration is clean, crisp and well executed.  There is a small 1/4" scratch next to the MD at the bottom and a void to the right of the tallest turret.
